The Challenge
Fish ponds and aquaculture systems need a steady supply of dissolved oxygen to keep fish healthy, but conventional aeration depends on grid power or diesel, which is costly and often unavailable at remote sites.
What We Did
With funding from the highly competitive DoE SBIR program, Epsilon designed a self-sufficient, small-scale floating solar aeration system with energy storage. The system supplies dissolved oxygen to maintain fish and pond health, and was piloted in collaboration with Texas A&M researchers.
Results
- Won a competitive DoE SBIR research and development award
- System designed and successfully piloted with Texas A&M researchers
- Technology also applicable to wastewater treatment, power generation and reducing evaporation in lakes and dams
